Some Lines Were Taken From Me – Here’s Why
I worked on a feature film and
had some lines taken from me
and given to other people.
It is Easy to Feel Crushed
Having lines taken away can feel awful.
Don’t fall for the trap and begin feeling paranoid and have self doubts
about your self worth and skills as an actor.
You might think:
Did the director hate my work?
Was it a personality issue?
Did I say something that upset one of the stars?
Are they going to fire me?
Don’t Sweat It
Lines can be taken from actors for many reasons.
There were two reasons why
some of my lines were given to other people.
1. One of the other actors needed to have more contact
with the stars of the project. The director decided to
give one of my lines to him. This allowed him to
interact more with the stars which gave him
more reason to connect with them later.
That made sense to me.
2. The assistant to the producer was given another
line of mine. Not happy about it, but I completely
understand. He wanted to reward her with screen time,
get a nice paycheck for the day and even allow her
to get residuals after the film is released.
So, having a few lines taken from me had absolutely nothing
to do with me, my performance or me as a human.
These and most on-set decisions are simply business choices.
Nothing personal.
It is really important to always keep this in mind for many
situations in our industry. Including getting or not getting
booked for a role. Nothing personal, just business decisions.

this on a set by sharing your thoughts below.
