Should an actor sign an exclusive acting agency contract
Signing an agency contract can be so helpful to actors. But, it
is essential that the actor knows exactly what they are signing.
This is especially true for exclusive contracts. Exclusivity can mean
different things.
1. Is the actor exclusive to the agent in just one market?
2. Is the actor exclusive to the agent around the globe?
3. Is the actor only exclusive to the agent for one area of the industry?
In larger markets, some actors are exclusive to an agent for one
part of the industry, such as: exclusive for TV and film. The actor
could have an exclusive contract for TV commercials with another
agent at a different agency.
It is so important for actors to know exactly what they are signing.
These are legal documents and the actor needs to abide by the
words spelled out in the contract.
