When I first began acting, I had no idea how to prepare before an audition. I did not even know there were specific techniques or ways to get ready for the read. I quickly learned that doing auditions by “just winging it” was not a smart way or helpful way to get cast.
Unbelievably Easy Ways to Prepare Before Your Next Audition For Powerful Results
- If you are auditioning for a TV show, make sure you watch the program and are very familiar with the show. Is it a comedy or serious show. What is the pacing of the show. Do actors cut each other off, or are the lines said in a more laid back way.
- If auditioning for a film, research the director. Become more familiar with the director’s style.
- Read the sides many times. Make sure you understand all of the words and can pronounce them.
- Don’t ever try and figure out what the casting director wants to see in the audition. There is no way of knowing. And, this is your opportunity to play and be creative with how you develop your character.
- What is your character wanting to achieve in the scene.
- What is preventing your character from getting what is needed.
- Most importantly, have fun. This is your chance to act, even if it is only for a few minutes. Enjoy yourself.
