This morning I had an on camera narration job where I had to use a teleprompter.

I love these bookings. Sometimes they are very educational, fun and all of my lines are on a teleprompter.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you don’t have to do a lot of preparation for the job because there are no lines to memorize. There is a lot of work that needs to be done before shooting.

Just so you know, the on camera narrator is kind of like the “spokesperson.” The talent talking about what is going to happen, or giving out information etc… Sometimes, there are other actors who are in scenes that have been set up and explained by the narrator.

Today I talked about an investment plan. Then I introduced the person who created the program.

Here are a few tips that will help you have a successful day as an on camera narrator.

Talk with the person who is scrolling your lines on the tele – prompter. I always ask the person to follow me. Sometimes, they try and get you to talk at their pace. Don’t do that. You need to develop your rhythm and let your words flow in the way you practiced and feels right.

And, when possible, run through all of your lines on the prompter at least once before shooting. Seeing the words on the monitor will look very different than the words on your script. The amount of words on each line will be different. It is a small but important adjustment to make.

If there is a word that is hard to pronounce, ask the person running the prompter to type in the word phonetically so you can easily pronounce it properly.

Let me and others know what tips you can share to help others when using a teleprompter.
