Why I Chose Not to Live in New York

For an actor and commercial model there is no place better to live than in New York. New York is the number one city in the United States for commercial print work. And, there were more than 70 films and TV shows shot there in October, 2019.

So, why would anyone wanting to work in the acting or modeling industry not want to live in New York.

There are many reasons. Some people:

1. Might not feel comfortable in such a large city. It can feel overwhelming and some people love a small city type of life.
2. Are not in a position to move. They already have a job/family and uprooting from their home is just too much.
3. Are simply afraid. It can feel good to be a big fish in a small pond and they don’t want that situation to change.
   
4. My reason for not moving to New York
   
   My work (acting and modeling) is very very important to me. But, it is not the most important thing in my life. My family takes a higher priority. When I started having children, I wanted them to live in an environment, where they could easily walk around a neighborhood, live in a house that has land to play on and live a slower paced lifestyle.
   
   So, I decided that my and my families life was more important than work. There is no doubt that I do not get the same opportunities for work due to living outside of New York. And, I have a long commute to get there. But, this was a great decision for me.
   
   I am not saying in any way that this is what others should do, I am simply sharing with you why I made this decision.
   
   No regrets at all. And, I have been living a good life for over 33 years.
