How to Solve These Problems After a Booking

February 26, 2019 1 Comment

All actors and models need to learn how to solve problems
that can occur after a booking.

Here is How They Get You

I made a decision to accept a small paying acting job
that was shooting more than 7 hours away from my home.

Actors Pension

Some actors would never have accepted this booking, and I
completely understand why they would turn it down.

As a Union actor, I never want miss earning
the minimum needed to add to my pension.  So, I accept
lot’s of jobs that others might turn down.

I also know that when I am on a set, I will meet interesting people
and learn new things.

I also find that work brings in more work.

After traveling many hours, I woke up early the next morning
to get ready to head to the set.

Check Your Wardrobe the Night Before a Shoot

As I was pulling the wardrobe out of my garment bag, I noticed
that my clothes were wet. I drove through a storm and some
water must have leaked into my trunk.

I did not have time to dry the clothes, so I carried them to my car.
Unfortunately, I dropped my shirt in a puddle, so now it was soaked.

To deal with this, I placed my shirt on the dashboard of the car, pointed
the vents toward my shirt and blew out a lot of hot air.

It worked pretty well.

Surprise

I assumed the shoot was taking
place in the city where the casting
director was located. That is where
I booked my hotel room.

The night before the shoot I got an email showing
that the set was IN ANOTHER STATE!!

I freaked out for a moment. I was thinking
that I might have to get up at midnight and
start driving again.

As it turned out, the location was in another
state, but only an hour away.

I was able to sleep well

In the video

you will watch and learn about other
things that made things a bit complicated.

But, what I have learned over the past 30 + years
as a full-time actor and commercial model, is that
we have to learn how to deal with tough situations.

The difficult surprises will always be there waiting to haunt us. But, I
always think, “OK, this is difficult, and how am I
going to solve the problem.”

As it turned out, the shoot was wonderful,
and I did meet some really interesting and
nice people.

  1. Hi Aaron,
I writing you for advice. I have a 23 year old bi-racial man who is 6’7”. Surprisingly he won Male Commercial Model of the Year at the recent LA IMTA competition. Even though he’s tall, he has a great face & body in amazing shape.
What agencies would you suggest that represent commercial male models? We’re in Lexington, Ky. Maybe Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville? He graduates college in May & is open to relocate. I just need your guidance.
Thanks so much!!! My cell 859-489-4752 or e-mail is janie@imagesmodelagency.com
