3 Tips Actors Need When Turning Down Jobs
It can be a hard decision if actors should accept or turn down a job or audition offer.
In this video you will learn 3 Smart tips actors absolutely need when turning down jobs and auditions.
Will An Agent Be Upset If an Actor Turns Down a Job or Audition
Some actors get nervous about telling an agent that they don’t want to accept a job or audition. They fear that the agent will be upset and not submit them for future projects. Or, worse, they might get released.
If the actor clearly explains their reason for turning down a job or audition, then the agent might be upset but will understand and respect your reasoning.
1 Reason For Turning Down a Job or Audition
If the job is far away and the client is not covering transportation or lodging then that might be a reason to turn down a job or audition. Or, perhaps the job is not paying much. I have rarely turned down a job because of finances. Especially, when I was getting started, I wanted the experience and the contacts. Even if I didn’t make much I would have something new to add to my reel or portfolio (if it was a commercial modeling job.) I also assumed the client would like my work and would think of me for future projects. Hopefully, they would be better paying ones.
2. Already Booked for the Shoot Date
If you are already booked out for the shoot date then ask if either of the projects could change their schedule. If it is a feature film or TV show, the chances of that happening are slim, but it is always good to ask. You never know what might happen.
3. Not Comfortable With The Product – Material – Language or Scenes
If there is something about the project that makes you uncomfortable, then you want to turn it down.
You don’t want to get into long explanations (with the client/director) about what your issues are, but just say “I’m Not Available.” That is it. Don’t get into complicated discussions. This is your life and you don’t want to do something you will regret. Certainly tell your agent about the conflicts you have, but no one else.
Perhaps the agent could ask that language or scenes get changed, but that might be a long shot. The important thing is that as great as it is to work on a project, don’t cave in and regret doing something against your beliefs or morals.
